View Video TributeGordon "Buddy" King, 85, retired employee of Occidental Chemical Corporation and resident of Columbia Rock Road, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. and Saturday after 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, 109 East Seventeenth Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Joe King and Rosa King King. Mr. King served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife whom he married April 16, 1949, June E. Collier King of Columbia; daughters, Vickie (Allen Wayne) Ingram of Spring Hill; Peggy Jean Mayberry of Nashville; sister, Katherine Grimes of Mt. Pleasant; grandson, Brandon Mayberry; and great granddaughter, Crislyn Reese. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Jennifer Ingram Reese; six brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers will be his nephews.
