Miss Grace Alderson, 87, retired from Columbia State Community College and fifty-year resident of Trotwood Avenue, died Sunday, December 18, 2005 in St. Louis, Missouri. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Dr. Jim Hughes and Tommy Vann officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. A life-long resident of Columbia, she was the daughter of the late James Franklin Alderson, Sr. and Jannye Carrigan Alderson. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia. During World War II, she served with the American Red Cross in the European Theater of Operation. Miss Alderson was retired from the administrative offices of Columbia State Community College where she began work at its inception. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Alderson Redmond of Webster Grove, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thedra Bayne Alderson and Mary Ruth Alderson and three brothers, James Franklin Alderson, Jr., Billy Fawcett Alderson, and Thomas Edward Alderson. Pallbearers are James Franklin Alderson, III, Timothy Scott Redmond, Gregory Redmond, John Franklin Alderson, William Preston Alderson, Campbell Ridley, Jr., Howard Alderson, Dr. Thomas Dake, Bruce Tschampel, and Ignacio Gomaz.
