Harlan Dumont Bowsher, 88, retired plant manager of General Electric and resident of Sunnyside Lane, died Monday, May 2, 2016 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Tommy Vann officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Mount Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Born April 23, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leslie D. Bowsher and Catherine Mae Dumont Bowsher. He was married to Barbara Jean Bowsher who preceded him in death November 1, 2013. He received his Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University. Instrumental in starting the General Electric Plant in Columbia, Mr. Bowsher was a well respected boss who considered the employees his second family. He served on the Maury Regional Hospital Board of Trustees, Board of Directors of First Farmers and Merchant Bank, and past President of Columbia Rotary Club. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. Mr. Bowsher was of Presbyterian faith. Survivors include his son, Donald Leslie Bowsher of Memphis; daughters, Catherine Louise Bowsher of Memphis; Cheryl (Jim) Morrison of Columbia; granddaughter, Leslie (Darold) Hatcher of Columbia; grandsons, Joel Benjamin Morrison of Mt. Juliet; Matthew Harlan Bowsher of Memphis; and great grandson, Harlan James Hatcher of Columbia.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Emilie Bowsher Head, and Mary Louise Bowsher Hicks. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Harlan Bowsher, Joel Morrison, Bill Gaskill, Jonathan Gaskill, Mike Zimmerman, Jay Harman, and Adam Smith. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Maury Regional Hospital Board of Trustees, and members of the Board of Directors of First Farmers and Merchants Bank.
