Mr. Harold Lloyd Dillon, 81, retired from DuPont/Spontex and resident of Trotwood Ave., died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at NHC Hillview Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Kingsport, Tennessee native was the son of the late Rev. W.R. Dillon and Polly Neely Dillon. He graduated from Sullivan High School in Kingsport in 1945 and in 1950 he graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a B.A. in chemical engineering. In 1951 he married Ann Duncan Dillon of Columbia who survives him. He was employed as a chemical engineer at DuPont/Spontex for 32 years. Mr. Dillon served as a CeeBee in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was stationed at Kwajalein in the South Pacific. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church where he started the Good News Sunday School Class which he taught from 1972 - 1993. He was a retired Deacon and very active in the Tennessee Baptist Brotherhood. In his free time he enjoyed photography. In addition to his wife survivors include his daughter, Karen Dillon of Erwin; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Denise Dillon of Columbia; sister, Camoline (George) Whitman of North Springfield, Virginia; four grandchildren, Luke (Carrie Hill) Dillon, RuthAnn Dillon, Patrick Dillon, Hallie Dillon all of Columbia; great-granddaughter, Grace Anne Hill-Dillon of Columbia; foster daughter, Jeanie Hendrix Miller of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Dillon. Pallbearers will be Luke Dillon, Patrick Dillon, Bill Abernathy, John Lynn, Harold Meador and Wayne Hardison. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Good News Sunday School Class, Deacons at Highland Park Baptist Church, and retired employees of DuPont/Spontex.
