View Funeral Webcast Helen Fike Lusk, 85, retired Assistant to the Director and Kindergarten Aide at Columbia Academy, died Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at South Gate Church of Christ with Joe Macer, John Thomas, and David Stofel officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born February 4, 1935 in Walker County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late David Avery Fike and the late Zora Mullinax Fike. On September 18, 1954, she married Elmer Howard Lusk who preceded her in death March 24, 2016. For 22 years, Mrs. Lusk was a Kindergarten Aide to Sandra McCarthy at Columbia Academy before teaching Preschool and eventually serving as assistant to the Director of the Preschool. She was also a pioneer of cradle roll and nursery classes in Churches of Christ, an excellent seamstress, and cook. She also sang at scores of funerals. Mrs. Lusk was a member of South Gate Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Becnel of Fort Worth, Texas; Alice (David) Stofel of Lawrenceburg; Jennifer (Lee) Winchester of Columbia; sons, Stephen (Debbie) Lusk of Chattanooga; Greg (Kelly) Lusk of Mt. Pleasant; son-in-law, Paul Davis of Nashville; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Davis; two brothers; and two sisters. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers include “Ms. Helen’s” former students.
