Helen Gail Hayes Estes, 76, longtime resident of Maury County and former assistant manager of Piggly Wiggly, died Friday December 27, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Mylen Coble and Brother Phil Mash officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Viola Baptist Church, 2605 Williamsport Pike, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born April 3, 1943 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Hughes Wilson Hayes and the late Blanche Goosby Hayes. She enjoyed line dancing which she also taught for many years. Ms. Estes loved people and never met a stranger, she especially loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of Viola Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Tim) Beaver, Tammie (Kevin) Burns, Sherry (Herbert) Slaughter, Shelia (Howard) White, and Crystal Remagen all of Columbia; grandchildren, John (Kelly) Batts, Jeremey Batts, Josh (Brittany) Davis, Kerby (Ashley) Slaughter, Christopher Ryan Slaughter, Nicholas Clark, Joseph Ellich, and Haley Remagen; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Bobby (Carolyn) Hayes; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Jerry Wayne Attkisson; brother, James Houston “Dink” Hayes; and great grandson, Landon Ryan Slaughter. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Viola Baptist Church.
