Herbert Henry Farris, Jr. of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on January 1, 2014 at Capital Caring Hospice, Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, Virginia. He was born in Maury County, Tennessee on January 4, 1931 to Herbert Henry Farris, Sr. and Josephine Olivia Farris (Kennedy). There will be a memorial service and burial at the Old Well Cemetery in Kettle Mills, Tennessee on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mr. Farris to: Old Well Cemetery c/o Richard Farris, 3719 Albert Matthews Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Oakes & Nichols is assisting the family with arrangements.He graduated from Hampshire High School and then served in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy he moved to Virginia in 1950 where he went on to receive his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Accounting from Benjamin Franklin University. He began his career in the General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C. and then joined the Tart Lumber Company in Sterling, Virginia where he remained as Treasurer until his retirement. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, dad, granddad and wonderful provider for his family. He had a great love for genealogy, nature and his boyhood home of Tennessee. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lynn Tenley Farris and his three daughters, Susan Lynn Farris of Waterford, Virginia, Janet Farris Kennedy (Robert) of Dewees Island, South Carolina and Diane Farris Shawver (Jere) of Vienna, Virginia and three grandchildren, Corynne Olivia Harvey Davie (Anton) of London, England, Josephine Virginia Shawver and Jared Stedman Shawver both of Vienna,Virginia. He is survived by his sister Ruth Olivia Tart of Falls Church, Virginia and brothers Clyde Waller Farris (Sara) of Columbia, Tennessee and Billy Kennedy Farris (Carolyn) of Lake Anna, Virginia and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother James Henry Farris, his sister and brother-in-law, Linda Blair and Joe Bell, and brother-in-law, Lynwood Tart.
