Herbert Eugene Lovett

Herbert Eugene Lovett, 88, resident of Old Lewisburg Highway, died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jacky White officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to Columbia Central High School Library, 921 Lion Parkway, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Franklin Jefferson Lovett and Ida Mae Hargrove Lovett. On September 16, 1950, he married Grace Frye Weaver Lovett who preceded him in death October 29, 1999. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Philippines. For several years, he worked for REA Express. Mr. Lovett was an avid fan of NASCAR and several years ago loved boating and water skiing. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his daughter, Linda (Larry) Brewer of Columbia; son, Michael D. (Lynn) Lovett of Culleoka; grandchildren, Brian Keith (Sarah) Brewer, Michael Eugene Lovett, and Jonathon Adam Lovett; great grandchildren, Anna Grace Brewer, and James Bryant Brewer; and sisters-in-law, Betty Morrow and Linda Weaver both of Columbia. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Lovett; sister, Sadie Belle Lovett; and grandson, James Lee Brewer. Active pallbearers will be Brian Brewer, Michael Lovett, Jonathan Lovett, Ty Cobb, Eddie Lovett, and Jeff Weaver. Honorary pallbearers include Jack White, John White, Jim Ball, Mark Morrow, Jim Reese, and Claudie Ervin.The family would like to express a special thanks to Caris Hopsice, NHC Columbia and nurse Allyson McNeece, and special friend Jim Reese.
