View Funeral Webcast Mr. Homer W. Martin, age 83, a native of Tullahoma, passed away peacefully in his home in Columbia, TN on October 11, 2021. Homer earned Masters and Bachelors degrees from MTSU and obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law. Graveside services for Mr. Martin will be conducted Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Pleasant Mount Cemetery with Rev. Paul Bauer officiating. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at the cemetery. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Professionally, Homer served 32 years as a teacher, coach, and principal. Martin was an adjunct professor at Martin Methodist College and Columbia State Community College from 1973-1989. He was a past president of the Tennessee Education Association, a past executive director of the Family Center, and a multi-term city councilman in Columbia. Personally, Homer was an active member of several area churches and served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, and church treasurer at Central Christian Church. He and his wife, Brenda, are currently active members of First Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, Brenda, Homer is survived by his two sons, Dr. Matt (Angela) Martin of Jacksboro, TN and Dr. Jeff (Raven) Martin of Columbia, TN. He is blessed to have four grandchildren, Sophia, Jacob, Knox, and Grier. Martin is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Carrie Mae Martin of Tullahoma, and his brother, Rev. Thomas Martin.
