Houston B. Jones, Jr., 70, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at his residence on Sharon Circle. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Louis Davis, Pastor Eric Nichols, and Steve Anderson officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 17, 1946 in Attala County, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Houston B. Jones, Sr. and Ercell K. Blaine Jones. He was a graduate of Hines Junior College and University of Southern Mississippi. He was a retired insurance agent and had worked for Mutual of Omaha, Shelter Insurance, and US Bank. An avid straw-bale gardener, he enjoyed showing others how to set up gardens. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and working for his church. Mr. Jones was a member of Thompson Station Church Columbia Campus and active in Gideons International.Survivors include his wife, whom he married October 18, 1980, Beverly Yeager Jones of Columbia; daughters, Rachael (Jeffrey) Yearwood of Germantown, TN and Bryne Elizabeth (Vince) Valenzuela of Wheaton, IL; son, Russell (Michelle) Jones of Olatha, KS; and grandchildren, Waiverly LaBlue, Wilson Yearwood, Molly Kate Yearwood, Peyton Jones, Porter Jones; and close family friend Littlejohn Gaston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard A. Jones.
