View Funeral Webcast Howard Taylor Loudermilk, 93, retired brick layer for Union Carbide, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at his residence on Cayce Valley Drive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. and Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born January 11, 1926 in Davidson County, he was the son of the late Minnie Lee Loudermilk Smith. On April 28, 1948, he married Pauline Johnson Loudermilk who preceded him in death February 12, 2016. He served in the United States Marine Corps 1st Division as a mortarman, and was stationed in Guam and Okinawa Island during World War II. Earlier in life, he was a self-employed brick layer and worked with Cecil Johns. His true passion in life was farming, he owned and operated a farm in Spring Hill for many years. An avid sportsman, Mr. Loudermilk was a pool shooter, enjoyed softball, baseball, croquet, bowling, and golf. He was a member of the American Legion Post 19, VFW in Maryland, Marine Corp League in Cambridge, Maryland, BAC Local #5 Brick Layer Union of Tennessee, Hog Neck Country Club in St. Michael’s, Maryland, Mt. Pleasant Country Club, and attended West End Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters, Beverly (Gary) Estep of Ridgely, Maryland; Janet Loudermilk of Columbia; son, Robert Loudermilk of Easton, Maryland; grandchildren, Charles (Missy) Squires, Jr of Goldsboro, Maryland; Ann Solomon of Winchester; Penny (Robbie) Morris of Winchester; ten great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marie Johnson of Bozman, Maryland; Brenda Johnson of Southport, North Carolina; half-brother, John Charles (Carol) Grimm of Florida; sitter, Tracy Dale; and special friends, Jeana Foster of Columbia; Martha and Roy Cathey of Columbia. In addition to his mother and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Granville and Nancy Loudermilk who reared him; stepfather, John S. Smith; five half-brothers, Howard Grimm, Jr., Robert Grimm, Edgar Grimm, Lloyd Grimm, and James Grimm; and half-sister, Helen Grimm Cameron. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include retired employees of Union Carbide, pool shooters and friends at Maury County Senior Citizens Center.
