Hubert Eugene Connelly, 90, went peacefully to be with the Lord September 10, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Kenny McFarlen officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born September 27, 1925 in Maury County where his family farmed for a living, he was the son of the late William O'Neal Connelly and the late Maggie Jones Connelly. On June 25, 1949, he married Marlene Pratt Connelly who preceded him in death in 1999. Hubert was a World War II veteran, serving in the Philippines. While there, he worked in the hospital and the motor pool. After the war, Hubert moved to Wenatchee, Washington, where his wife's family resided and went to Agriculture School on the GI bill. He then spent the next forty-eight years working the fruit orchards in the states of Washington and Oregon. Hubert was an avid hunter, known for hunting, raising and trading coon hounds, although he also hunted bears. After the death of his wife, he returned to his hometown of Columbia. He was a faithful member of New Lasea Church of Christ, opening the doors every Sunday until his health declined. Hubert was a sweet, kind, generous man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include nieces, Kerry (Rory) Johnson of Huntington, West Virginia; Carol (James) Helton, Celia (Ron) Anderson, Sylvia Mathews, all of Chapel Hill; Kristy Finney of Kingston Springs; Kathy (Ken) May and Karen Connelly, both of California; nephews, Rick (Lisa) Connelly of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Mike (Marcia) Lynn of Texas; Jeff (Suzie) Lynn of Alabama; Alan (Suzanne) Lynn of Columbia; Darrell (Kim) Lynn of Leipers Fork; Danny Connelly of Kingston Springs; Dana Connelly of Washington; brother-in-law, John Lynn of Columbia; sister-in-law, Vivian Connelly of Chapel Hill; several great nieces and great nephews; and dear friends at Kathy's Family Restaurant. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Connelly, Ray Connelly, Vance Connelly; and sister, Helen Connelly Lynn. Active pallbearers will be Gary Connelly, Casey Connelly, Alan Connelly, Jon Cheek, Jason Carpenter, Ty Cobb, Alan Lynn, Ron Anderson, and Levi Mathews. Honorary pallbearers will include Randy Fox, Larry Anderson, James Helton, and members of the Round Table at Kathy's Family Restaurant.
