Isadore “Ikey” Price Keller, Jr., 85, resident of Columbia, died Monday, January 8, 2024, at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
Born January 31, 1938, in Camden County, Missouri, he is the son of the late Isadore Price Keller, Sr. and the late Bessie Doyle Anderson Keller. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from LSU and retired from Aramark. Geaux Tigers!
Price is known for his love of Christ and heart to serve others. He was an active member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, where he was chosen by Father Bob Roeser to become the first Deacon of the parish and was ordained in 1999. He served as a member of the Parish Council, Eucharist Minister at both the church and Maury Regional Medical Center and chaired the Building Committee for the new church. He served as a team member of Tennessee Prison for Women ministry, Knights of Columbus Council 7447 and the 4th Degree Knight. He was part of the team for People’s Table and Habitat for Humanity House. Additionally, Price was employed by Father Connor to assist him in parish duties. He aided the Boy Scout Troop members from St. Catherine in achieving their Ad Altara Dei badge.
Ikey’s heart for serving went beyond the church and into the community. He served as a board member for Boys and Girls Club, Harvest Share and Crossroads to Home. As a Noon Rotary member, he chaired the Scholarship Award Committee and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. Price was a founding member of Mule du Gras and the first Krewe. He served at Special Olympic events and was an integral volunteer in several programs of Maury Regional Medical Center.
In his early years, Price was a former square dance caller with clubs in Baton Rouge, Mobile, and Birmingham and loved to fish.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married January 15, 1958, Clare Marie Perez Keller of Columbia; sons, Kenneth Price (Tara) Keller of Bakersfield, California; Carl Leo (Jeanne) Keller of Alpharetta, Georgia; daughters, Lori Marie (Mark) Orme of Franklin; Sharon Alane (Rick) Lyerly of Birmingham, Alabama; seven grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. Price has a sister, Connie (Mike) Joffe of Fair Play, Colorado.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, along with Drew Sparkman, Joe Yzguirre, Randy Sparkman, and Con Vrailas. Honorary pallbearers include Maury Regional Medical Center Volunteers, Columbia Noon Rotary, and Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will start at 2:00 P.M followed by a funeral mass at 3:00 P.M. at St. Catherines Catholic Church on Friday January 12 . Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with a sharing of memories and prayer service beginning at 7:00 P.M.
