View Funeral WebcastMr. Ive L. "I.L." West, Jr., 93, farmer, cattleman and resident of Carter's Creek Pike, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Peery officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Ive L. West, Sr. and Grace Walker Jacobs West. During World War II he served in the United States Army, 11th Field Artillery Battalion, stationed on the Philippine Islands of Lady, Mindancio, Luzon and New Guinea during the Philippine invasion. He attended Maury County schools and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Mr. West was a member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ellen Caroline McMeen West of Columbia; daughter, Mrs. Jennifer (Jim) Barrier of Columbia; two sons, Jeffery West, John (Carol) West both of Columbia; two grandchildren, Christian Hayes, Ben West; and two sisters, Mrs. Betty Jean Blocker of Jenson Beach, Florida and Mrs. Sarah Carrigan of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by three brothers, J.B. West, Charlie "C.P." West, Joseph "Dee" West; and two sisters, Helen Higginbotham and Billie Anne West. Pallbearers will be J.B. West, Joe West, Tony West, David West, Ronald Blocker, Ray Higginbotham, Charles Higginbotham and Horace Higginbotham.
