Joseph Carroll "J. C." Inman, 77, retired Lieutenant with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Director of Maury County Civil Defense, died Thursday, September 15, 2005, at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Newell and Rev. Art Robins officiating. Burial will be in Lynnwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday after 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Red Cross, 419 West Ninth Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the son of the late William Clyde Inman and Ola Mae Beeler Inman. He graduated from Giles County High School and was a graduate of the first Law Enforcement Academy held at Stewart Air Force Base in Smyrna in 1956. He had completed numerous training seminars throughout the state and taught at the Academy for new patrolmen for several years. He served two terms as Maury County Commissioner. He was a member Columbia Jaycees, Fraternal Order of Police and Columbia Masonic Lodge. He was a longtime member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where he had served in many positions, Chairman of the Administrative Board, President of the Men's Club, Treasurer, MYF Counselor. A sports enthusiast, he initiated the Church Softball League in which he played and coached. Later he coached a Girls' Slowpitch Softball Team, Ranch House. He also served as President of the Girl's Slowpitch Softball League. Later, as President of the American Little League, he was instrumental in getting a new field built for the Farm League. Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Mary Pate Inman of Columbia; three sons, Ron Inman, Sam (Marcia) Inman, Tim Inman, all of Pulaski; one daughter, Carol (Eddie) Daniels of Lynnville; one brother, Brannon (Judy) Inman of Loganville, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Melissa Orr (Phillip) Counts, Rob (Michelle) Orr, Alexandra Inman, Samantha Inman, Bryce Inman, Amanda Inman, Breanna Inman; four great grandchildren, Hayden Burns, Logan Counts, Taylor Counts, Britani Counts; two nephews, Mike Inman, Jason Inman; and three nieces, Delene Churchwell, Avy Jane Seymore, Mary Hollis Kyle; and his beloved pet, Buddy Lee. He was preceded in death by one daughter Anita Fay Inman who died in 1978 and one son, Bobby Wayne Inman who died in 1948. Pallbearers will be Mike Inman, Jason Inman, Rusty Churchwell, Tim Clark, Phillip Counts, Wayne Romesburg, and Scott Alberd. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Tennessee Highway Patrol and Maury County Civil Defense.
