Mr. John Thomas "J.T." Priest, 85, resident of the Santa Fe Pike, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Peery officiating. Burial will be in the West Point Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, c/o Ann Campbell, 1067 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, TN, 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Eddie Marvin "E.M." Priest and Tommie Lee Barnes Priest. He was married for 61 years to Doris Pigg Priest of Columbia who survives him. Mr. Priest had been employed by Dunn Brothers and retired from Industrial Contractors, Inc.. He was a member of Iron Workers Local Union 492. He was an avid wood carver and loved reading his Bible and western novels. Mr. Priest was a life long member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was still active as an elder. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Steven Thomas (Julia) Priest of Columbia and Roger Dennis (Mary) Priest of Laguna Vista, TX; brother, Virgil (Deamie) Priest of Columbia; sister, Flora Lee Jones of Madison; four grandchildren, Michael Todd Priest of Murfreesboro, Roger Dennis Priest, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Matthew Scott Priest of Cookeville and Anna Priest (Ben) Saylor of Asheville, N.C.; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles (Gail) Pigg of Santa Fe, Mattie Beth Pigg of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Wendell F. Pigg and Jessie Jones. Pallbearers will be Ricky Jones, Eddie Priest, David Priest, Dan Pigg, Rodger Pilkinton, Doug Williams, Hassell Campbell and Johnny Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be members of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Dr. Thomas Dake and neighbors and friends.
