View Memorial Service WebcastJack Huston Wells, 71, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at home after a battle with cancer. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. William W. Williamson and Rev. Margaret F. Beamguard officiating. His cremains will be placed in the church's columbarium. The family will visit with friends from 12:00 noon to service time in the church's gathering area.éIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Maury Regional Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit or Oncology Unit, Maury County YMCA, or the charity of choice. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, on February 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Travis Ewing Wells, Sr. and Helen Huston Wells and was a 1955 graduate of Huntington East High School. He received a B.S. in Medical Technology from Marshall University in Huntington. Later he completed a Master's degree in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University. As a youth, he was the youngest Eagle Scout in Huntington, received the God & Country Award, and was Lodge Chief of the Order Of the Arrow. His chosen profession was Clinical Laboratory Science. He served as Chief Medical Technologist for Rutherford Hospital, Murfreesboro until 1966, when he became Chief Medical Technologist at what was then Maury County Hospital, where he later became the Phlebotomy Program Director. He was active in the clinical education of students in the Columbia State Medical Laboratory Technician Program. His professional memberships included the Tennessee Society of Medical Technologists, where he was President for a term. He also was a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. In addition, Jack served as a Board Member of the American Red Cross, and a member of the Maury County School Board for several years.During his lifetime Jack has served in various leadership capacities in both the Methodist church and the Presbyterian church and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church at the time of his death.Jack loved sports and children and was actively involved in the Pop Warner Football Program, the school sports programs particularly football and baseball at Central High and Post 19. He also volunteered his time to work with the Spring Hill High School Band Program. He was an avid University of Tennessee sports fan. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Myers Wells, whom he married August 22, 1959; a daughter, Mary Katherine "Kay"(Clifford) LeMay of Culleoka, Tennessee; sons, Mark Huston Wells of Spring Hill, and Scott William (Megan) Wells of Spring Hill; grandchildren, Timothy Scott LeMay, Culleoka, and Jon Carter Davis, Spring Hill. Sister in Law, Nancy Wells of Huntington, WV. He was preceded in death by his brother Rev. Travis E. Wells, Jr. The family wishes to acknowledge special thanks to the Maury Regional Medical Center, their Special Nursing Unit and the Oncology Unit, Dr. Linda Monroe, Dr. Houston Jameson, Dr. Stephen Woodley, Dr. Mark Messinger, and Dr. Robert McClure.
