View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Jacqueline Smith Markham,74, passed to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5:00-8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Ladies Bible Class Fund at Graymere Church of Christ, 1324 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Born June 28, 1944 at King’s Daughters Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee, she was the only child of the late Thomas Smiser Smith and the late Elizabeth Fleming Smith. She was a 1962 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University. She worked as a Secretary at Turner & Osborne, then as a Teacher’s Aide at College Hill Elementary and McDowell Elementary Schools. Mrs. Markham was well known by her classmates as the coordinator of many Class Reunions and a volunteer with the Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary. For many years, she was Treasurer of Columbia National Little League and was a Girl Scout. Mrs. Markham was a member of Graymere Church of Christ where she was a children’s class coordinator and a member of the weekly Ladies Bible Class, Meals on Wheels and a volunteer at Columbia Academy. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John Nelson Markham, Sr.; two sons; John Nelson (Vicki) Markham Jr. of Lebanon; and Thomas Kevin (Nancy) Markham of Columbia; grandchildren, Mary Beth Markham (Justin) Peach of Birmingham, Alabama; Amber Nicole Markham (Daniel) Wakefield of Memphis; John Nelson Markham III of Hermitage; Matthew Thomas Markham of Columbia; and Katherine Leigh Markham of Lebanon; great grandson, Jackson Ross Peach of Birmingham, Alabama; cousins, Gail Edwards (George) Hinson of Donelson; Teresa Smith of Columbia; Judy Fleming Gunn and Jan Fleming Vincent, both of Benton, Kentucky; and sisters-in-law, Linda (David) Baumstark of Versailles, Missouri; and Jo Frances Markham of Columbia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Betty Markham; aunts, Gladys Smith (Maxie) Edwards; Glenna Griffith; Mary Gilliam; Charlotte Due; uncles, Arnold (Jane) Smith; Allen Fleming; Seth Fleming; cousins, Earl Taylor Gilliam; Jerry Gilliam; Tommy Smith; and brother-in-law, Arthur Milton Markham, III. Pallbearers will be John Nelson Markham III, Matthew Thomas Markham, Justin Ross Peach, Daniel Victor Wakefield, Andrew Sterling Wood, Tommy Drake, Freddie Rich, Richard Brown, and Jimmy Compton.
