View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast James Arthur Hanes, 76, retired electrician by trade as Art's Electrical, died Monday, March 29, 2021 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Gary Smalley and Britt Hanes officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 23, 1944 in Hickman County, he was the son of the late Connor Hanes and the late Hattie Davis Hanes. He was a 1962 graduate of Hickman County High School. Mr. Hanes served in the National Guard for six years. For seventeen years he worked at Monsanto Chemical Company, two years at General Electric, and seven years at Union Carbide. Mr. Hanes never met a stranger, enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and goats, bird watching and the outdoor life; but most of all reading and studying his bible. He was a member of Locust Street Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife 52 years, whom he married October 18, 1968, Maggie Hie Hanes of Culleoka; sons, James Britt (Kimberly) Hanes of Columbia; Anthony Bryan (Peggy) Hanes of Lavergne; Adam Trent (Michelle) Hanes of Columbia; sisters, Imogene Rye of Erin; Joyce Carpenter of Clarksville; Dell Hines of the Leatherwood Community; Katherine Hanes of Columbia; brothers, O'Neil (Rachel) Hanes of the Leatherwod Community; Minor (Reecie) Hanes of Primm Springs; Arnold (Mary) Hanes of the Leatherwood Community; Aaron Hanes of the Leatherwood Community; grandchildren, Allie Hanes, Hannah Hanes, Olivia Hanes, Caraline Hanes, Faith Hanes, Reagan Hanes; sisters-in-law, Anna (Billy) Caldwell; Rosa (Joe) Perko; brothers-in-law, Tony (Nita) Hie; John (Tricia) Hie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Hanes. Active pallbearers will be Mike Holt, Gary Hanes, Lee Richards, Terry Chapman, Roger Toombs, William Toombs, Chad Hanes, and Kent Baumgardner. Honorary pallbearers include his nephews and friends.
