James E. Burns, Sr. James Edward Burns, Sr., 79, farmer, died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at his residence on Cranford Hollow Road. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Calvin Lunn, Jack White, and Joe Macer officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday and Saturday evenings from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late John B. Burns and Rebecca Eskew Burns. After World War II, he served in the Philippines as Chief Switchboard Operator in the U. S. Army. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Ludie Mai Derryberry Burns of Columbia; one daughter Patricia (Michael) Beard of Columbia; one son, James E. "Jay" (Sharon) Burns, Jr. of Spring Hill; five sisters, Marie Cox of Nashville; Catherine Choate of Spring Hill; Jean (Billy) Crowe, Margaret Billington, and Linda (Vernon) Brown, all of Columbia; two brothers, Robert Burns and William (Marjorie) Burns, both of Columbia; four grandchildren, Michelle (Trent) Hanes, Heather Beard and her finance Lee Richards, Kevin Beard, and Thomas Burns; and one great grandchild, Hannah Grace Hanes. He was preceded in death by one brother, John B. Burns, Jr., and one sister, Dorothy Parsley. Pallbearers will be Bill Parsley, Tommy Parsley, Kenny Burns, Ronnie Burns, Doug Burns, Barry Cox, Johnny Brown, and Jimmy Derryberry. Honorary pallbearers will be friends at Southern Livestock Auction, "bench buddies" at Shady Brook Mall, Bear Creek friends, Bobby Harmon, Gene Johnson, David Crowe, Donald Burns, Jerry Burns, Mike Burns, Eddie Burns, Calvin Lunn, Harry Lunn, Danny Lunn, Andy Hunter, Leon Walters, Jack Willis, Alton Walker, Clovis Foster, Charlie Martin, and Edward Turner.
