James Robert "Bob" Chaney, Sr., 79, retired 44-year employee of Union Carbide Corporation and resident of Mayflower Drive, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols with John R. Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday after 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Chaney was a member of Graymere Church of Christ for over 40 years, a member of the Sunday morning Auditorium Class and Wednesday night Singing Class. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ann K. Chaney of Columbia; daughter, Patricia Ann "Tricia" (K.B.) Cothran of Columbia; son, James Robert "Jim" (Olga) Chaney, Jr. of Venice, Florida; granddaughters, Ann Marie Cothran (Matt) Schulz of Franklin, Constance Nichole Chaney of Knoxville, Erica Danielle Chaney of St. Louis; grandson, Kernie Benson Cothran of Columbia; sister, Evelyn (A. E.) Carpenter of Columbia; sister-in-law, Sara Blackman of Charleston, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Charlie Frank Kelley of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, R. C. Chaney, Chester Lee Chaney, and Charles Wilford Chaney.
