James Cummins Couch, Sr., 95, retired owner and operator of Couch's 5 & 10, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at his residence on Couch Lane. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Zion Presbyterian Church with Rev. Arch Warren officiating. Burial will be in Zion Churchyard. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the church. He was married to Rebecca Louise Wallace Couch who preceded him in death on November 2, 1994. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Asian Theatre in China during 1928 - 1932. He served as Past President of the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. He received the Boy Scout Long Rifle Award and was former Director in First National Bank in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church where he had served as Elder. Survivors include two sons, James C. (Kate) Couch, Jr. of Columbia; Wallace B. (Karan) Couch, Sr., of Hampshire; Matilda Louise Couch (Sam) Beaird of Mt. Pleasant; Virginia "Ginger" Helen Couch (A. C.) Harlan of Columbia; and forty-three grandchildren and great grandchildren.
