James O Cowart

Mr. James Orvale Cowart, 90, resident of Tiger Bennett Road in Hampshire, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Bishop Ray Pennington officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kelsey Cemetery in Kelsey, Texas. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The DeKalb County, Alabama native was the son of the late James Edward Cowart and Lois Watson Cowart Hanley. He was the owner of M & J Floors in Houston, Texas and later was employed as a heavy duty machine operator. Mr. Cowart was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mozell McGinty Cowart of Hampshire; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Elizabeth Hall of Clarksville and Mrs. Diane (Jerry) Ferguson of Virginia; two sons, James Orvale Cowart, Jr. of Bakersfield, CA, Timothy Theron Cowart of Corrigan, TX; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Cassandra (Tom) Warner of Hampshire, Mrs. Gayla (Kim) Prince of San Angelo, TX; one stepson, Cecil Wayne (Willa) Hill of San Angelo, TX; three grandchildren, Cassonya Hall of Clarksville, Tina Christine Hall of Murfreesboro, Anthony Ferguson of Galveston, TX; half-brother, Verlin Dewey Cowart of Tuscumbia, AL; half-sister, Ruth Philpot of O Fallon, MO; 7 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
