Mr. James Edgar (Jimmy) Dalton, Sr., 83, retired since 1980 as co-operator of E. T. Dalton Furniture Company and former long-time resident of Park Drive, died Friday, June 16, 2006 at Veterans Hospital in Nashville. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. John Rushing officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 127 Theta Pike, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Williamson County, he was the son of the late John Thomas Edgar (Ed) Dalton and Annie West Dalton. From 1942 to 1945 during World War II, he was a radio operator in the U. S. Army. He served in the European Theatre of Operation in Italy and earned three bronze service stars.. Following military service, he and his brother operated their father's furniture business on the Courthouse Square. He was a charter member of Highland Park Baptist Church and since 1991 was a member of Northside Baptist Church. On January 5, 1946 he married the former Neva Thornton. Mrs. Dalton preceded him in death October 13, 1998. Survivors include a son, James Edgar (Eddie) (Mary Sue) Dalton, Jr. of Columbia; a brother, Thomas Howard (Ivy) Dalton of Columbia; a grandson, Jeffrey Todd (Grace Ann) Dalton of Columbia; a great-granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Dalton of Columbia; and two nieces, Linda (William) Davis and Teresa (Kenny) Napper, both of Columbia. Active pallbearers are Jonas Whitwell, Jimmy Clark, C. E. Hutcherson, Merrill Hutcherson, Perry Rogers, and Ronald Schultz. Honorary pallbearers include Wayne Stanfill, Gene Lindsey, Marvin King, Donnie Dalton, Charles Dalton, Mickey Dalton, Hershel Dalton and Deacons of Northside Baptist Church.
