James Harlan Dobbins

Mr. James Harlan Dobbins, 90, retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Cross Bridges community, died Friday, June 20, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Carl May officiating. Burial will be in Cross Bridges Methodist Churchyard. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cross Bridges Cemetery Fund, c/o Susan Travis, 3041 Hampshire Pike, Mt. Pleasant 38474. Notes of sympathy may be sent towww.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was born June 11, 1918 to the late Henry Sowell Dobbins and Elizabeth Harlan Dobbins. He was a 1936 graduate of Hampshire High School and member of Arkland Church of Christ. In 1948, he married the former Lecy Sparkman, who preceded him in death September 8, 2005. Mr. Dobbins spent his life on the family farm where he was born. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Maury County Farm Bureau and served as a community committeeman for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He is survived by two daughters, Janice (Randal) Mashburn of Nashville and Sally (Greg) Grainger of Brentwood; two grandsons, David Dobbins Grainger and Jonathan Henry Grainger, both of Brentwood; and devoted caregivers, Diane Jones, Rachel Russell, and Judy Wallace. Active pallbearers are Winfred Baker, Bret Herrmann, Sidney Ebbeling, Matthew Russell, Clayton Russell, Bobby Wallace, and Josh Floyd. Honorary pallbearers include Gary Herrmann, J. R. Anderson, Carl Harris, Jr., Ralph Sims, Leonard Johnson, Jack Shipp, and Dr. Thomas Dake.
