Mr. James Isaac "J.I." Howell, 84, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at his residence on Cheairs Circle. Funeral services will be conducted at 3p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Dawson and Rev. Pete Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8p.m. at the funeral home. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was owner of Howell's Wholesale Tobacco Co. and Howell's Country Store. Later he was employed by the Maury County Chickasaw Convenience Center. Mr. Howell was a member of American Legion Post 146 in Loretto. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spring Hill. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Linville Howell of Columbia; a daughter, Letha (Glenn) King of Lawrenceburg; a son, Randy (Rhonda) Howell of Spring Hill; a brother, William C. "Bill" Howell of Columbia; six grandchildren, Grace Ann (Todd) Dalton, J.J. Payne, Randy (Courtney) Howell II, Adam (Tracey) Howell, Stephanie (Jason) Gilbreath, John (Michelle) King; nine great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Ben, Randy III, Cheali, Rheagan, Jackson, Brittney, Tyler and Briley. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be co-workers at Maury County convenience centers.
