Mr. James Jerry Watson, 76, graphic artist and resident of Hay Long Ave. in Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, June 6, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Brown's Service West Chapel in Hueytown, Alabama. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of local announcements. The Fairfield, Alabama native was the son of the late Ralph Watson and Eugenia Cosper Watson. He graduated from Fairfield High School and received his B.A. from Auburn University. After graduating he was a newspaper staff artist, first with The Nashville Tennessean and then with The Birmingham News, leading to his career in advertising. He was creative director at Bauerlein Advertising before establishing Watson Graphics in New Orleans. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Robin Watson of Lynnville; two granddaughters, Georgia Watson and Shelby Watson both of Lynnville; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Emilie Watson of Pleasant Grove, AL; a sister and brother-in-law, Laurie and Doug Moss of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. The arts and his adopted home of New Orleans were always dear to his heart; memorial donations may be made to the New Orleans Museum of Art or the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation to aid post-Katrina recovery.
