Mr. James Lee Keever Mr. James Lee Keever, 87, retired engineer with Union Carbide Corporation and long-time resident of Sunnyside Drive, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at NHC of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He attended North Carolina State University and later taught mathematics at South Carolina State University. During World II, he served in the U. S. Navy as a photographer in the Pacific Theatre of Operation. Mr. Keever was a member of First United Methodist Church and formerly served as Treasurer of the Columbia District of the United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer with The Good Samaritans and a former president of Community Concerts. His wife, Cornelia "Connie" Hobbs Keever, preceded him in death September 9, 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Kitty (John) Case of Fort Worth, Texas and Judy (Mark) Hall of Fostoria, Ohio; a son, David (Pat) Keever of LaVergne; a brother, Don Keever of Los Angeles, California; two grandchildren, Chris (Sandi) Hall and Brett (Deziree) Hall; and two great-grandchildren. Members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 will serve as pallbearers.
