James H. "Red" Morgan, 86, former owner/operator of Morgan Brothers Electric Co. and Mt. Pleasant Transfer, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at his residence in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in Zion Churchyard. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Columbia, Academy, 1101 West 7th St., Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Leonard Howard Morgan and Elizabeth Ella Lanius Morgan. On September 20, 1951 he married Dorothy May McAnally Morgan who preceded him in death February 6, 2008. He was active in establishing rural electricity to the Southeast and Southwest portions of the United States. He was a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club where he was awarded a lifetime membership. Mr. Morgan was a gentleman farmer who worked harder than most gentlemen would. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a very active charter member of Graymere Church of Christ where he volunteered for mission work in Panama and volunteered with Columbia Academy. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Kay (Rusty) Hanshaw of Greenwood, Indiana; two grandsons, Robert (Amber) Hanshaw of Acworth, Georgia, Benjamin (Lori) Hanshaw of Indianapolis, Indiana; four great-grandchildren, Amelia Grace Hanshaw, Blake Alexander Hanshaw, Elijah Morgan Hanshaw, James Blair Hanshaw; two brothers, Hal (Audrey) Morgan of Columbia, Jerry L. Morgan of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Martha Hill Morgan of Columbia; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Morgan; three brothers, Leonard Howard Morgan, Jr., Jack P. Morgan and Abraham Lincoln Morgan. Pallbearers will be Jim Carrigan, John H. Davis, Adam Coffman, Bob Morgan, Jackie Morgan, Larry Morgan and Mac Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Bishop, Jasper Foster, Jerry Hanshaw, Bobby Morgan, Jr., Jerry Sullivan, Bob Hull, Billy Smith, J. W. Caldwell, Dr. John Simmons, and the Lucille's Restaurant Coffee Bunch including George Jones, Billy Rummage, Austin Brewer, Wayne Hartsfield, Frank Walker and others.
