Mr. James Cloyd Neel, 80, longtime resident of Sumner County, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at St. Thomas Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Thomas S. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Churchyard at a later date with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The Sumner County native was the son of the late Cloyd Smith Neel and Margaret Simpson Hitchcock Neel. He served in the United States Army during World War II and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Neel owned Auto Title Service. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Joan (Jason) Bowles of Columbia; step-daughter, Melody (Bruce) Denny of Clarksville; three step-sons, James (Laurel) Mitchell of Dickson, John (Alisa) Mitchell of Manchester, Joseph (Henny) Mitchell of Birmingham, Alabama; 16 grandchildren; and one sister, Elizabeth Smith of Mobile, Alabama.
