James Paul Norman

James Paul Norman, 84, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Wedgewood Drive, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Friday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 1611 Nashville Highway, Columbia, TN 38401 or American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1864, Columbia, TN 38402. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Maynard T. Norman and the late Louise Kelly Norman. On June 16, 1948, he married Clara Marie Adams Norman; and they celebrated sixty-two wonderful years together until her death May 29, 2011. He was employed many years at Southern Stone prior to his thirteen-year career at Union Carbide. Mr. Norman enjoyed music, playing the guitar for residents at Hillview Health Care through the years, and attending Blue Grass Festivals with his wife. Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Norman "Buddy") Pewitt of Culleoka; Jan (Doug) Howell of Columbia; sisters, Grace Chumley of Cookeville; Marie Cummings of Culleoka; Peggy (Jerry) Davis of Primm Springs; brother, Tommy (Karen) Norman of Columbia; grandchildren, Karen Howell of Fairview; Chris (Kari) Pewitt and Brandon (Christi) Pewitt, both of Culleoka; Jason Howell of Columbia; great grandchildren, Logan Pewitt and Conner Pewitt; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Bobby Joe Chumley and Harlan Cummings; nephew, Bobby Ray "Bud" Chumley; and great niece, Lisa Fuller. Active pallbearers will be Norman "Buddy" Pewitt, Doug Howell, Chris Pewitt, Jason Howell, Brandon Pewitt, and J. W. Neal. Honorary pallbearers will include Karen Howell, Logan Pewitt, Conner Pewitt, and members of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.
