Mr. James Alvin Proctor, 80, retired group leader for General Motors Corporation and resident of Early Road, died Saturday, July 2, 2005 at NHC Hillview. Oakes & Nichols will announce arrangements for a memorial service to be conducted in Columbia at a later date. The body will be conveyed to Voorhees, Siple and Summerford Funeral Home in Pontiac, Michigan for services there. Burial will be in the Christian Memorial Gardens in Rochester, Michigan. A native of Oakland County, Michigan, he was the son of the late Lynn G. Proctor and Iva Emigh Proctor. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Columbia. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (James) Reedy and Shirley "Sue" Sharpton (fiance' Edward Bolton) of Columbia; two sons, Larry (Martha) Proctor of Holly, Michigan and Robert (Deborah) Gibson of Gulfport, Mississippi; a brother, Jerry Dale "Pete" Proctor of Pontiac, Michigan; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Proctor of Birmingham, Michigan, Nancy Spurlock of Waterford, Michigan and Dora Marie Childress of Columbia; a brother-in-law, Claude Childress of Sanford, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
