James Harold Shehane

James Harold Shehane, 83, retired personnel manager for Occidental Chemical Corporation and resident of Harris Street, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital.Funeral services were conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Dr. Jim Gardner officiating. Burial was in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. A native of Riverview, Alabama, he was the son of the late Jason Albert Shehane and Willer May Smith Shehane. During World War II and the Korean War, he served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Cascade AD16.Mr. Shehane was a member of Riverview Baptist Church and attended Craft Memorial United Methodist Church.Active in civic and community affairs, he was a former member of the Maury Regional Hospital Advisory Board, past vice president of Maury County Mental Health Advisory Board, former member of the Tennessee College Placement Association, former member of Columbia Civitan Club, former member of the Board of Directors of Harvest Share, member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, charter member, current member, and first president of Kiwanis Golden K Club.Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Alma Christine Rochelle Shehane; daughters, Roxanne (Gary) Howell and Rita (Steve) Parks; grandchildren, Jennifer (Peyton) Robertson, John Logan Parks, Preston Parks, Christian Howell, and Conner Parks; a great-grandson, Tyler Robertson; sisters, Raye Shehane Horton and Faye Shehane (Arlen) Terry. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Shehane Williams.Active pallbearers were Ed Humphrey, Stan Humphrey, Ron Kincaid, Branson Williams, John Terry, Bobby Horton, Jason Terry, Jim Andrews, and Ralph Byrd. Honorary pallbearers included members of Golden K Club and Craft Memorial United Methodist Church.
