Mr. James Daimwood Stofel, 91, retired employee of Maury County Garage and former longtime resident of Rieves Bend Road, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Maury Regional Hospital.Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Stofel and Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Highland Church of Christ Building Fund or Highland Elementary School Library.The Maury County native was the son of the late James Wesley Stofel and Pearl Daimwood Stofel. He was married to Clara Elizabeth Smith Stofel who preceded him in death on December 16, 2001. Mr. Stofel retired as supervisor of Pupil Transportation after thirty-eight years service. He loved mechanic work and was former owner of Stofel Racing. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Stofel Hendley of Columbia; one son, James Lawrence (Sondra) Stofel of Columbia; one sister, Virginia Crowson of Columbia; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Willadean Stofel Allen Carter, and one brother, Bernard Stofel.Active pallbearers are Don Allen, Michael Allen, Wade Allen, Danny Stofel, Charles Stofel, Dwight Stofel, Tim Chapman, and Billy Stofel. Honorary pallbearers include his nephews, Billy Carter, Casey Derryberry, Haldor Primm, Bryan Ridley, Sam Yokley, Aubrey "Strut" Davis, Dennis Jenkins, Ed Cox, Logan Baker, Malcolm Brady, Dale Ring, Dr. William Robinson and the staff at Core Physicians.
