Mr. James Russell "Sally" Tyler, 88, resident of Highland Avenue, died Monday, December 5, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10a.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Pete Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Library, 2790 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN, 38401. On September 21, 1939 he married Inez Tidwell Tyler who preceded him in death July 8, 2001. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Tyler was employed by TVA and later Monsanto and spent the last 25 years of his career as owner and operator of Tyler Welding Shop. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a greeter and usher for many years. He is survived by one daughter, Donna Faye Tyler (Jerry Wayne) Erwin of Columbia; one son, Jerry Wayne (Alanna Michelle) Tyler of Columbia; one sister, Gladys Belew of Columbia; four grandchildren, Brenda Erwin (Monty) Bland of Columbia, Gwen Erwin (Dodd) Church of Spring Hill, Tracey Tyler House of Columbia, Kristen Michelle Tyler of Murfreesboro; six great-grandchildren, Chance Bland, Chase Bland, Caleb Church, Ryan Shaw, Zachery Shaw, Savannah House; two nieces; and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters. Pallbearers will be Tom Jennings, Doug Short, Wallace Woody, Jerry Norman, Robert Belt, Larry Nance, Monty Bland and Dodd Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hooten, Woody York and ushers and greeters of First Baptist Church.
