James Ralph Ussery

March 6, 1925 — August 10, 2016

James Ralph Ussery, 91, retired employee of Monsanto Chemical Company, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at his residence on Brookside Drive in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Williams Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late William Robert Ussery and Zora Sneed Ussery. On July 31, 1943 he married Clariece Hines Ussery who preceded him in death June 9, 2015. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Ussery was a member of the Maury Regional Medical Center Super Stars, Nashville Shriners, Columbia Blue Lodge, Tennessee Order of the Eastern Star 287 Columbia Chapter, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, and 164 Combat Engineers. Survivors include his son, Tony (Gina) Ussery of Maryville; granddaughters, Alyssa Ussery and Savannah Ussery both of Maryville; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Ann Allison, Patsy Woody, Freddy Heirrick, Betty Jo (Andy) Thomason, Naomi Humphrey, Martha Scott, Donna (Larry) Tarkington. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy Ussery, Cecil Ussery; and sisters, Norel McDonald, Dorothy Briggs, and Kathleen Ussery. Active pallbearers will be Josh Simpson, John Ussery, Bobby Hines, J.P. Hines, Edward Lyles, Andy Thomason, Larry Tarkington, and Kevin Scott. Honorary pallbearers include Pat Troope, Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Belinda Bart, Jim Bailey, Tony Sowell, Glenn Ferrell, Dean Dickey, Donald Sneed, Bobby Sneed, John William Sweeney, Christine S. Barlar, Manuel Young, William English, Charles Webster, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Scott, Elders, Deacons, and Friends at Graymere Church of Christ, past and present employees of Monsanto Chemical Company, and Riley Sloan and Company.
