James W. “Bill” Wilson, 75, retired brush truck driver for the City of Columbia - Public Works Department and long- time resident of Columbia, went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery with W.L. Culberson and Bobby Bradley officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 4, 1944 in Maury County, he was the son of the late William E. Wilson and the late Jewell Dick Wilson. He was a graduate of Culleoka High School and then went on to work for the City of Columbia - Public Works Department for over 20 years. Mr. Wilson enjoyed trading watches and knives and antique cars. He also enjoyed watching the Barrett Jackson Car Show, American Pickers, and old westerns. Mr. Wilson enjoyed being retired, he loved sitting on his front porch talking to people and spending time with his dog Brutis. He was a member of the Colonial Meadows Church. He is survived by his sister, Bettie Hight of Columbia; nephew, Gene (Julie) Hight of Columbia; niece, Lydia (Bobby) Bradley of Columbia; and two great nephews, Matthew and John Hight of Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Wayne Hight. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Bradley, W.L. Culberson, Gene Hight, Matthew Hight, John Hight, and David Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of the City of Columbia - Public Works Department.
