Mr. James Laurie "Jimmy" Webster, 70, former resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at his residence in Florence, South Carolina. Graveside services will be conducted at 2p.m. Sunday at the Webster Family Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4 - 6p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 252 S. Dargan Street, Florence, S.C., 29506; Billy Hardey Home for Boys, 1133 Timmonsville Highway, Darlington, S.C., 29532; or the Florence Elks Club Lodge Scholarship Fund. The Columbia native was the son of the late George Pope Webster, III and Louise Ross Webster. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Tech. He served in the United States Navy onboard the USS Iowa during the Korean Conflict and received the Korean Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the UN Service Medal and European Occupation Service Medal. He retired after thirty two years as power area superintendent at DuPont Chemical Company and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Florence, South Carolina. Mr. Webster was an Eagle Scout having attained the Order of the Arrow and was a trustee of the Florence Elks Club. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Rifle Camp #1419, an avid golfer and loved genealogy, woodworking, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Babb Webster of Florence, S.C.; three sons, Timothy (Jill) Webster of Greenville, North Carolina, Jonathan Webster of Woodbury, Minnesota, James "Jamie" Laurie Webster, II of Murfreesboro; one daughter, Amelia "Amy" Laurie Webster of Florence, S.C.; one sister, Jacqueline W. Wiltshire of Camden, S.C.; one brother, Carl R. Webster of Franklin; two grandchildren, Timothy Webster and Shea Webster. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Pope Webster, IV, daughter, Scarlett Webster, and brother-in-law, Joe Wiltshire.
