James C Whittimore

Mr. James C. Whittimore, 79, retired employee of General Motors and resident of Cothran Road, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Paul Dunning officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday after 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Brownsville, Tennessee native was the son of the late Amos Whittimore and Mary Campbell Whittimore. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Whittimore retired from General Motors after thirty-three years employment. An avid sportsman, he had coached Pony League Baseball in Cresthill, Illinois with three consecutive championship years and was an Atlanta Braves fan. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Vera Pusser Whittimore of Columbia; one daughter, Vicky (Charles S.) White of Columbia; one son, James Rick Whittimore of Columbia; and one grandson, Tyler Corbin White of Columbia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
