James Edward Winchester, 84, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Columbia, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to service time at the funeral home. Born June 17, 1933 in Maury County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Alex Winchester and the late Minnie Lee Reese Winchester. On September 20, 1951, he married Reba Alice "Katie" Blocker Winchester who preceded him in death May 17, 2012. He enjoyed fishing and loved to cook. Mr. Winchester was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda (Dane) Henderson of Columbia; sister, Betty Winchester Lunn of Columbia; grandchildren, Ginger Baker of Mt. Juliet; Holly Baker (Chad) Alsup of Pulaski; Farrah Baker (Jamie) Clark of Huntsville; step grandchildren, Leah Henderson (Brian) Watson of Goodlettsville; and Dana Henderson of Sarasota, Florida; great grandchildren, Riley Grace Flatt; Savannah Alsup; Jackson Alsup; Gabriella "Gabbi" Alsup; Parker Clark; and Kaelee Clark; step great grandchildren, Jex Watson; Brax Watson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nannie Ring; Annie Winchester; Mattie Winchester; and Bessie Heithcock; and brothers, William Winchester; Charles Winchester; John Winchester; and Joe Winchester.
