View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Jane Tyree Norton, 87, a resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021 surrounded by love and family after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services for Mrs. Norton will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Klassen officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In honor of Jane’s love of flowers and gardening, please wear your favorite flower color. Born May 11, 1934 in Marshall County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Earl S. Tyree and the late Vivian Duggan Tyree. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1952 and attended Columbia Business College. On October 3, 1953 she married Lloyd M. Norton who preceded her in death on August 9, 2002. Mrs. Norton was formerly employed with Liberty National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky and retired from Coastline Federal Credit Union in Jacksonville, Florida where she worked as a teller and supervisor. She was a member of National Association of Railway Business Women, former President of American Legion Auxillary Unit 19, President of LeFemme Cabane 1394, and honorary Kentucky Colonel. She had a servant’s heart and was always there for others. She was passionate about God, her family, serving others, and loved cooking, gardening, and travelling. Jane was known as the “hostess with the mostest.” Mrs. Norton was a member of Glendale United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughters, Janet (Marty) Ballard of Bardstown, Kentucky, Pam Gullett of Turner’s Station, Kentucky, Lisa Norton of Jacksonville, Florida and Nancy (Joe) Clark of Bardstown, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Dawn Watson, Grace Rogers, Chris Ballard, and Tabitha Gullett; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Watson, Kinsey Watson, Daniel Ballard, and Emma Ballard; sisters-in-law, Neva Graves of Brentwood, Barbara Norton of Jacksonville, Florida, Gayle Secrest and Patsy Tyree both of Columbia; and special canine companion, Misty. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mae Tyree Lee and brother, Billy Tyree. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
