Mrs. Janet Louise Rawl JonesMrs. Janet Louise Rawl Jones, 88, died Friday, September 6, 2002 at her residence on Old Sunnyside Lane. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 12, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Pasedena Community United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida with Rev. Sylvia Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Bount, Curry & Roel Memorial Park. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, September 15, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Columbia with Rev. Ray Newell officiating. The family will visit with friends after 4:30 p.m. at the church. Oakes & Nichols is in charge of local arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Riverside United Methodist Church Building or Carpet Funds, the Santa Fe School Library or Hospice of Highland Rim. She was born June 12, 1914 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania to the late Harry M. and Rosina C. Helble Rawl. She received her elementary and high school education in the public schools in New Brighton and graduated in the top five of her 1932 graduating class. She attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and worked as a supervisor for Bell Telephone Company. While attending Geneva College, she met Richard L. Jones, Sr., former high school teacher/coach at St. Petersburg High School and principal of Dission Junior High School and Boca Ciega High School. He preceded her in death in 1999. The Joneses were marrid August 28, 1936 and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1937. Mrs. Jones worked briefly for a local dairy, but quit work to become a full-time mother and homemaker when their two children were born. During her children's early school years, she was an active volunteer at their schools and was a member of the St. Petersburg Junior Women's Club. She and her family were members of and attended First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg from 1937 10 1951 when her husband became principal at Dission Junior High School, moved to the Gulfport area and transferred their membership to Pasadena Community United Methodist Church. She was very active in her church and served in various offices in the Family Forum Sunday School Class and was a member of the United Methodist Women's Organization (Pasedena IV Circle). She also helped in keeping attendance records at the church. In the late 1960s, Mrs. Jones began work in the bookkeeping department at St. Petersburg High School. In 1969, Mr. Jones retired from education and they moved to Gainesville, Florida where he worked as the Field Director for the Florida High School Activities Association. Mrs. Jones returned to homemaking and traveled extensively with Mr. Jones. In 1971, the couple returned to St. Petersburg to retire so they could spend more time with family and remained there until 1999 when they moved to Columbia to make their home with their daughter. Mrs. Jones continued her membership with Pasadena Community United Methodist Church, but became and affiliate member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Columbia and was a member of the Tuesday Circle of the United Methodist Women. She also maintained her membership in the Florida Retired Educators Association and the American Association of Retired Persons. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Duvall of Columbia; a son and daughters-in-law, Richard L. and Raina Jones, Jr. and Sheri Jones; of St. Petersburg, Florida; two nieces, Jane (Joseph) Molony and Joyce Davis; six grandchildren, Krista Jones. (Bradley) Garrett, Richard. Scott Duvall, Laura Turner (Mark) Wolski, Richard L. Jones, III, April Jones. Einwalter and David Paul. Duvall; five great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Einwalter, David Wolski, Haley Garrett, Jillian Garrett, Elizabeth Wolski; two sisters-in-law, Sarah J. Pool of Winter Park, Florida and Thelma T. Jones of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, Nathan Lipofsky of Wilston, Connecticut. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter-in-law, Heather Duvall.
