Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Wilson Holcomb, 94, long-time homemaker and resident of Iron Bridge Road, died Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Norman. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Doug Brown officiating. Friends will gather Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols for a time to recall memories of Mrs. Holcomb. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of the Caney Springs Community in Marshall County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Wilson and Willie Kate Walker Wilson. Her life was made in the Bear Creek Community since her marriage February 4, 1928 to Raymond Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb died January 12, 1987. Her only brother, William Wilson, also preceded her in death and is survived by a daughter, Miss Wanda Wilson of Nashville. As a member of the Bear Creek Community Home Demonstration Club, Mrs. Holcomb participated in many activities and received numerous ribbons for her cooking, baking, canning, and beautiful needlework. She was an active 80 year member of Berea Church of Christ, and her neighborly deeds, provisions of generosity, continuing kindness, and gentle caring ways endeared her to many. Her influence for goodness and righteousness will remain with a great number of neighbors and friends for years to come. Mrs. Holcomb is survived by her caregivers, James and Mickey Norman and Andy and Lenora Hunter, long-time neighbor, Marvin Fautt, whose efforts enabled Mrs. Holcomb to continue in her own home after her husband's death, and others, who made efforts to assure her comfort and contentment.
