Jean Lynch Beatty, 86, retired cattle farmer and resident of Santa Fe, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Lindstrom officiating. Burial will follow in Swiss Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 25, 1931, in Union City, she was the daughter of the late Levi Lynch and the late Nettie Jeanette McNeeley Lynch. Her mother died when she was very young, and she was reared by an incredibly caring Aunt Ruth in West Tennessee. Her husband, Grover Ray Beatty, preceded her in death on June 25, 1994. She was a longtime resident of Santa Fe, where she was a farmer, hairdresser, and mother. She was a friend to all and loved her animals and the active life of a farmer. Her husband was a merchant marine sea captain, so she was a self-sufficient woman running a large farm for months at a time for many years. Jean cared for her Red Angus cattle with much the same affection that others might feel for their cats and dogs. She kept a garden, chickens, dogs, cats, and at times guineas, ducks, donkeys, llamas, goats and horses. She was active in the Maury County Farm Bureau, Tennessee Farm Bureau, Tennessee Cattleman's Association, and American Red Angus Association and enjoyed bowling. She was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene. Jean was the epitome of the term "Nana"-a loving mother, grandmother, and friend - she treated everyone she knew with compassion. She loved God and her family, and was welcoming to all who entered her door. Survivors include her sons, Carl Hollinsworth, Tom (Patty) Hollinsworth, and Gary (Sarah) Beatty; step-son, Jeff (Vivian) Beatty; grandchildren, Shaun (Stephanie) Hollinsworth, Brian (Lisa) Hollinsworth, Thomas (Jada) Hollinsworth, Michael (Tori) Hollinsworth; and four great grandchildren whom she cherished. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Judy Hollinsworth and each of her siblings. Pallbearers will be Thomas Hollinsworth, Mike Hollinsworth, Brian Hollinsworth, Shaun Hollinsworth, Chris Snoddy, Terry Crotzer, Billy Johnson, and Mark Finch, Jr. The family encourages all those wishing to make tributes in Jean's memory to perform a kind gesture to someone in need. They will be uplifted and hopefully pick up her special twinkle in their eye to continue her legacy.
