Jean Garrett Thurman Sherrill, 89, retired employee of Dupont and Spontex and resident of The Bridge at Life Care Center, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jack Malone and John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. On October 18, 1947, she married Walter D Sherrill who preceded her in death April 10, 1995. She was a 1945 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She was a longtime devoted member of Graymere Church of Christ and volunteered in many activities of the church, including the Clothes Closet and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and attending gospel singings. A longtime volunteer with Maury Regional Auxiliary, Mrs. Sherrill had reached Super Star status. For many years, she assisted at the polls with the Maury County Election Commission. She was a member of United Daughters of Confederacy, Daughters of American Revolution, and Maury County Historical Society. Survivors include her daughters, Jane (Terry) Cannada of Smyrna; Dr. Emily (Joe) Siciensky of Columbia; Molly Tate of Smyrna; grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Barcroft of Nashville; Wesley Tate and Jakob Tate, both of Smyrna; great grandchildren, Michael Barcroft, James Barcroft, Elijah Barcroft; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.Active pallbearers will be Wesley Tate, Jakob Tate, Mike Barcroft, Mike Gilchrist, Jim Bailey, and Donald Goad. Honorary pallbearers will include Christine Barlar, Reba Carnahan, Dr. Cummins Couch, Linda Garner, Knoxie Goad, Jean Hardison, Jean Marie Hull, Jack & Mary Alice Malone, Peggy Rector, Harold Stone, and J.
