Jean Lockhart Walker, 88, died peacefully Friday, February 27, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1:00 - 2:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 3:00 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens, with her son-in-law Lee Coulter officiating. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in the Santa Fe Community on March 19, 1926, she was the oldest child of the late Herschel Lockhart and Gladys Galloway Lockhart. She was a 1944 graduate of Columbia Central High School. On October 15, 1946 she married J. Frank Walker, who survives. She delighted in being a homemaker and mother. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Walker loved to travel and read. She especially enjoyed her membership in the Columbia Garden Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband of sixty-eight years, this gracious and gentle lady is survived by her daughters, Barbara "Babs" Walker of Columbia, Cathy (Lee) Coulter of Brentwood, and her adopted daughter, Eva Heinricher of Innsbruck, Austria, an exchange student who lived with the Walker family. She is also survived by grandchildren, Stephen (Tammy) Walker of Columbia; Elizabeth Walker (Ward) Hart of Franklin; and Isaac Coulter of Brentwood; great grandchildren, Franklin Walker of Columbia; Anna, Lila, Quinn and Ward Hart, all of Franklin; step great grandchild, Justin Dillehay of Columbia; sister, Nancy Lockhart Fox of Santa Fe; brother, Jack S. Lockhart of Santa Fe; and beloved nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be truly missed. Pallbearers will include Stephen Walker, Isaac Coulter, Franklin Walker, Justin Dillehay and Ward Hart.
