Mr. Jerry Wayne Brooks, 66, retired meat cutter and resident of Pleasant Drive, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Hueston Marshall and Randy Jones officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Tillman "Jack" Brooks and Margaret Grimes Brooks. He was a graduate of Culleoka High School and had worked at Western Sizzlin' for twenty-four years. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Columbia Civitan Club where he was Civitan Citizen of the Year in 1992. A former ASA and ISA umpire in chief, he was one of the four founding members of the ISA Hall of Fame and served as the ISA Tournament Director. Survivors include his wife, Eva Gail Hughes Brooks of Columbia; two sons, Mark Brooks and Chris (Angie Castillo) Sharp, both of Columbia; two daughters, Dana (Francisco Martinez) Sharp of Franklin; Heather (Eric) Shore of Columbia; three brothers, Carl (Margaret) Brooks and Bobby (Barbara) Brooks, both of Columbia; Ronnie Brooks of Culleoka; two sisters, Linda (Ray) Hutcherson and Ellen (Joe) Osterfield, both of Columbia; five granddaughters, Kayla Sharp, Bailey Sharp, Monica Gutierrez, Brianna Sharp, Haley Sharp; one grandson, John Micheal Sharp; and special mother-in-law, Ruth Hughes. He was preceded in death by one brother, J. T. Brooks. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Potts, Jack Hudson, Eddie Brooks, Johnny Brooks, Justin McClure, Bobby Wayne White, Jr, Tim Luckett, and John T. Brooks, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Marion & Dorothy Wilhoite, Bob & Donna Montgomery, John Bradley, Dr. Douglas Kennedy & Nurses Alesha & Tallie, Dr. Cummins Couch, Karen Perry, NP, all nurses and CNT's at NHC Hillview, and all former ASA and ISA umpires.
