Jerry William Grooms

Mr. Jerry William Grooms, 55, bushhog foreman for the Maury County Highway Department, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at his residence on McKinley Joyce Road. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday after 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday after 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of Mary Ruth Kelley Grooms of Columbia and the late Dudley William Grooms. He had been employed by the Maury County Highway Department for fourteen years. Mr. Grooms loved the outdoors and working on small engines such as lawnmowers and tillers. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of twenty- two years, Jerri Hatcher Grooms of Columbia; two daughters, Kami Lynn Grooms and Kerrie Ann Grooms both of Columbia; a brother, Larry (Cindy) Grooms of Columbia; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Extended family and friends include the employees and patrons of Hillview Restaurant. Active pallbearers are Bryon Steward, Wayne Hayes, Jeff Jones, Jason Campbell, Mike Floyd, Jerry Nance, Ronnie Wiseman and Van Boshers. Honorary pallbearers include employees of the Maury County Highway Department.
