View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Jerry T. Blackburn, age 77, a resident of Nashville Highway, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 with his family beside his bedside. Mr. Blackburn was born and raised in Maury County, he was the son of the late Lester F. and Frances Fox Blackburn. For 46 years, he was married to Margaret Cox Blackburn who preceded him in death. Mr. Blackburn enjoyed being outside, loved working in his yard and taking great pride in how it looked. He loved going to auctions, yard sales, and talking to people brought him great joy. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he loved his family and loved visits from friends. During his younger years, he mowed yards and delivered newspapers after getting off from his day job and for many years served in the Civil Defense. After 24 years, he retired from Publix Shirt Company, then he began his career with the City of Columbia. Survivors include his daughters, Shelia (David) Staggs and Susan McCrary; grandsons, Steven McCrary, Lane McCrary, and Daniel McCrary; great grandson, Diesyl McCrary; and loving companion, Fuzzy. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Blackburn; and beloved grandparents, Loftin “Laughing” Fox and Linnice Gilliam Fox, and Matthew and Nettie Smith Blackburn. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home John Rushing and Jim Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 P.M – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
