Jewell Rodgers Latta, 92, former long-time resident of Woods Drive, died Monday at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, to be followed by a graveside service at 2:30 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with John Vaughan officiating. Born April 27, 1925, in Scott County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John Ellis Rodgers and the late Lorena Robey Rodgers. On December 24, 1944, she married Kenneth C. Latta, Sr., who preceded her in death December 4, 2004. Mrs. Latta was a 1944 graduate of Columbia Central High School where she was a drummer in the band. She was a very talented seamstress at Parks-Belk Department Store and Custom Flags. She was a member of the Mule Town Rookies since 1958 and a Super Star member of Maury Regional Auxiliary. Mrs. Latta was a charter member of Graymere Church of Christ and enjoyed volunteering in their Meals on Wheels program. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Christopher "Chris" Latta; sisters, Mildred Rodgers Erwin, Selena Rodgers Truelove, Mary Delilah Rodgers Cook, Evelyn Rodgers Demastus, Eulalah "Lollie" Rodgers Speed, Geneva Rodgers Collier, and Margaret Rodgers Loftin; and brothers, Roscoe Rodgers and John W. "Wink" Rodgers.Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Carlton (Bitsy Walker) Latta, Jr., of Lynnville and Steven Gary (Wanda Lentz) Latta of Columbia; grandchildren, Kevin S. Latta, Keith C. (Becky) Latta, John H. (Shannon) McFarlin, Katie M. (Ben) Bennett, Kristina Latta (Scott) Powell, Joshua Steven (Melissa) Latta; and eleven great grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Latta, Keith Latta, John McFarlin, Josh Latta, Scott Powell, and Ben Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will include her surviving nephews, Jimmy Rodgers, Johnny Rodgers, Tommy Cook, Roger Demastus, Jeffrey Collier, and members of the Mule Town Rookies.
